Just-In Case Fire Ltd, of Calgary Alberta, designs, manufactures markets and distributes innovative, foam induced portable fire suppression equipment under the brand FireCaddy. The FireCaddy equipment comes in either a 12 volt battery system, gas or diesel systems. There is patent pending on the special injection systems customized for fighting fires using a water base with foam. The FlameOut foam is also the only environmentally friendly foam that can fight both A & B fires. The foam is non-toxic which allows fire trucks to batch mix the foam without having to do the time consuming efforts of flushing out the system as it is non corrosive and environmentally friendly. The FireCaddies are used for those being the first to respond to emergency calls as it allows them to either contain or take immediate action until the fire trucks arrive.

Gem Rural Fire Association, in August of 2005, purchased from Just- In Case Fire Ltd., two Fire Caddy’s with 250 Gallon trailers, extra lay flat hose and large volume nozzles. At the time, this equipment was new and unique to the fire fighting world. Mark Hayes, Founder and Inventor of the FireCaddy equipment and distributor for FlameOut foam, made a demonstration to Gem’s Fire Chief, Les Douglass which changed the way they addressed fire situations.

Since that date, the FireCaddy and FlameOut foam has been the standard supplemental fire fighter products used by this small volunteer fire department. Gem Fire Department consists of 16 volunteers who now consider this equipment as important as their rescue and pumper trucks.

The best testimonial to the effectiveness of the FireCaddy equipment and the FlameOut foam is from the Fire Chief himself, Les Douglas. Les explained an incident that happened the morning of September 19th, 2008 when the Gem Rural Fire Association was notified of a structure fire. The structure fire involved a 42′x72′ wooden arch rib quonset with a tin roof.

The first to arrive on the scene was Fire Chief Les Douglass pulling the Just In Case Fire Caddy with a 250 gallon water tank with a foam injection system using the FlameOut foam. Upon arrival at the scene, the shop was fully evolved. Chief Douglass proceeded to use the fire caddy to cool the house which was located approximately 50′ from the burning quonset. At that time, as illustrated by the attached picture, the vinyl siding began to curl from the heat. The house was foamed for approximately 17 minutes before the pumper truck arrived on scene from the fire hall located 15 miles from the site of the fire.

Upon arrival, the fire caddy was refilled and continued to be used to cool the house. “We believe that if not for the fire caddy, the garage would have started on fire and consumed the house”, stated Les. In the pictures you can see there is nothing left of the shop and how the heat from the Quonset melted the siding on the home. Les was proud to say that his efforts and quick response to the scene and being able to use the Just-In Case Fire equipment saved the home which probably would have been destroyed otherwise.

The Gem Rural Fire Association has two fire caddies, one located in the north end of the district and one located in the south. Les confirms that “Our fire division is roughly 11 townships. The fire caddies have proven to be invaluable with quick response times and able to prevent fires from doing more damage before the pumper unit can get to location from the fire hall located in the center of our division. Most of our fires are prairie grass fires and the trailer mounted fire caddies are well suited and agile in the fighting of these types of fires”.

Shortly after this incident on September 27th, 2008 the Just In Case Fire Caddy was again on the scene for a prairie grass fire located in the local community pasture. Les emphasized again, “With limited manpower, the fire association was again able to contain the fire utilizing the fire caddy on scene. Once the grass fire had been sprayed over with the foam, it is so effective and has such strong retardant abilities that we just don’t need to go back”.

“Its testimonials like this that make me proud of all the hard work we have done in developing the products for Just-In Case Fire Ltd”, proudly states Mark Hayes. “It is about saving lives, property and the environment…”
