Pedrick is an American Sailing Association (ASA) instructor and a United States Coast Guard (USCG) 100T Oceans Master.

As a well known respected naval design firm, David Pedrick Yacht Designs has created many innovative and progressive vessels in several yachting categories including superyachts, Grand Prix racers, motor yachts, luxury and production cruising yachts, and America’s Cup contenders.

The Raised Salon Series of cruising yachts, ranging from 47’ to superyachts, offers outside views from the inside salon.  The Traditional Cruiser series, 62’ LOA and under, features a low profile cabin roof design upon which the raised salon is designed to fit.  Pedrick Yacht Designs also has a SportCruiser line that ranges from 33-90’ LOA.

Produced in 2000, the Shanakee II, a Pedrick 75 RS cruising sloop, was created for the “experienced US West Coast yachtsman.”  Featuring panoramic views, the Shanakee II is configured with an owner’s stateroom built for comfort and long term liveability, along with a captain’s stateroom and two double-berth guest cabins.

DavDavid Pedrcik Yacht Designid Pedrick was the principal designer of the Courageous in 1974 and the Stars & Stripes 87, both America’s Cup winning yachts.  When looking at the Triple Crown of ocean racing – Fastnet, Bermuda, Sydney-Hobart – Pedrick’s designs held the records for over ten years from the mid ’80 until the mid ‘90s.
David Pedrick Yacht Designs created a 90’ custom classic sailing yacht, the Savannah, which earned the “Best Sailing Yacht” award from ShowBoats International in 1997.  The fast and luxurious Savannah has participated in and won several regattas.  Pedrick Yacht Designs also provided performance and engineering specs for the innovative 156’ luxury yacht, MITseaAH, in 2004.  The deep keel and hydrodynamic design allow this 156’ yacht to easily exceed speeds of 22 knots while under power.

An integral part of David Pedrick Yacht Designs is the refitting and restoration of yachts past their prime.  Classic wooden yachts have been restored to their former pristine conditions through careful assessment, engineering, and optimization.  Some examples of their work includes a 1930 18’ Fife restoration, Alana, and two re-fits, the 1977 America’s Cup winning Courageous along with Team New Zealand’s 1987, Hissar.

The design philosophy of David Pedrick Yacht Designs is to approach “each project as a unique interweaving of art and science.”  Each yacht is tailored to suit the needs of the individual client using the technical expertise and artistry of the naval architects of the firm.  It’s no wonder David Pedrick Yacht Designs is truly one of the best in their field.

Tiger Woods’ Yacht: An Escape Into Privacy

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Tiger Woods owns a 155 ft. marine fuel powered yacht that goes by the name “Privacy”.   Tiger Woods’ Yacht was purchased in 2004 from Christensen Shipyards, and is a 155 Trideck Motor Yacht with a reported cost to build of $20 million.  The beam is 29.5 ft. and it is constructed of fiberglass composite.

Megayacht buyers have a strong desire to customize their purchases, and Tiger Woods’ yacht is no exception. With three SeaDoos, two vespa scooters and a couple of ocean kayaks, the transom garage is full of goodies!   A large bar with stainless steel BBQ, and an 8 person jacuzzi dress the deck for the most leisurely of afternoons; and a $150,000 scuba tank fill station was added to blend helium, nitrogen and oxygen. The helium blend allows deeper diving than the usual two-gas blend. An inflatable decompression chamber is also on board. This equipment is necessary for diving deeper than the 120 ft. recreational limit.

The interior of Tiger Woods’ Yacht includes cherry woodwork with  cream, light browns and white accents.  White silk wallpaper lines all of the staterooms. One of the rooms was converted for working out and contains all the essentials:  free weights, a treadmill, and a stationary bike.  Transparent stairs and a cherry handrail are found in the staircase, but if you prefer an elevator, up to three people can ride at a time.  The the main living area is an open plan, with only the salon and dining room divided.  And, what sports haven is complete without a 50″ plasma television?

The Christensen Trideck yachts take almost three years to build, but Tiger made the purchase when the construction was already 2/3 complete. This allowed all of the custom touches to be added, and shortened his wait time to less than a year.

Tiger purchased the yacht as a way to get away from the public and as a sanctuary from the media. Once away from port it is pretty tough for anyone to bother the famous golfer and his family. The yacht’s name “Privacy” pretty much says it all concerning Tiger Woods’ purchase of this super luxury yacht.
